What Does a Community Foundation do?
We partner with individuals, families, businesses and corporations, nonprofits, and professional advisors to foster change, share knowledge, convene around important issues, and maximize impact in the community. We work directly with donors to fulfill charitable goals by providing a variety of customized giving options, handling fund administration, and offering expertise on current and local needs.

Promote Philanthropy
Caring for Others
Philanthropy is defined in different ways. The origin of the word philanthropy is Greek and means “love for mankind.” Today, philanthropy includes the concept of voluntary giving (of time, talent, and/or resources) by an individual or group to promote the common good. Philanthropy also commonly refers to grants of money given by foundations to nonprofit organizations. Philanthropy addresses the contribution of an individual or group to other organizations that in turn work for the causes of poverty or social problems-improving the quality of life for all citizens.
Encourage Engagement
Involve the Community
There are over 345,000 residents across Spartanburg County. When we see a need and come together to meet that need, we are building a better quality of life for all. The Foundation acts as a convener – one who brings people together – to address ways to make improvements in our community, to learn from others who have already done what we hope to do, and to harness the collective strengths we have to make a difference.
Respond to the Community
Responding to needs
When we see a need, we have a responsibility to respond to it. Whether it is an immediate response to a disaster, finding ways to support improving economic mobility for impoverished communities, or supporting those working to feed the hungry on a daily basis, we answer the call to to respond to the needs of our residents and build a better future for our entire community.
